Divine Mercy Parish 2012-2013

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your interest in your child's religious education.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “parents are the principle and first educators of their children” and "the role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitute" (1653, 2221). Furthermore, John Paul II wrote that “the right and duty of parents to give education is essential…and it is irreplaceable and inalienable, and therefore incapable of being entirely delegated to others or usurped by others” (FC, 36).

Accordingly, Divine Mercy Parish has a program of Religious Education for children which is aimed at supporting and supplementing the catechesis you as parents already provide as the primary educators of your children.  Classes meet on Tuesday evenings at the St. Elizabeth site from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. during the school year.

Home-Based Catehesis

In addition to our classes at St. Elizabeth, many families choose to take special care that their home be truly "the first school of Christian life and "a school for human enrichment." (CCC #1657)  These families use materials provided by the parish and serve as the direct catechists of their children.  

Registration:

Registration for this school year will begin during the weekends of August 4/5 and August 11/12.  Registration forms will be available at both the St. Elizabeth and Nativity sites as well as at the Parish Office (NOL Site).  The first meeting will be on Tuesday, August 21st.
